In 2014, a new photography contest was founded by International News Agency "Rossiya Segodnya", called the Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest in honor of photographer Andrei Stenin, who died in Ukraine in 2014 while fulfilling his duties. RBTH chose some of the prize-winning photos depicting Russia. / Lotuses growing in a small lake in the town of Artem (East of Russia, 38 km from Vladivostok).

This photo seria tells about Svetlana Trubnikova. She is 47 years old and four years ago, she had both her legs amputated at the knees, and then almost lost her sight. Her elder daughter brought Svetlana to live with her, but due to the tough living conditions Svetlana decided to go back home.

Fire broke out at the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences library in Moscow at the end of January 2015. As a result, the main archive of books was lost. According to preliminary estimates, 5 million books were burnt, but they were never properly quantified.

Russia’s Old Believers are a very interesting and distinctive religious and social group. Old Believers split from the Russian Orthodox Church in the mid-17th century in protest against its reforms. The village of Multa (Altai region) was founded by Old Believers and is home to a large community. Believers of many confessions now live in the village, but the Old Believers still shape its way of life.

Chinese sportsmen Haitau Du on a ski run at the Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi. He was operated at just 4 years of age, but having both arms amputated did not stop him from doing sport. His philosophy is, "Keep moving, don’t stop until the end."
