Many of us have seen the famous video series “100 years of Beauty." It’s pretty cool as it shows us how styles have changed over the years in a particular country or culture. However, the authors usually base their visual story on the images of celebrities of the era. In this sense they're pretty accurate, but they usually have little to do with how average people looked at the time.

To understand how people really dressed and looked it's better to leaf through an old family photo album. How did our parents and grandparents spend their free time and what did they think was worth capturing on film? What did they look like at our age? How did they dress and do their hair?

To answer these questions, we've conducted an experiment: our volunteer model Jane with the help of stylist Natalia and the RBTH team recreated the styles of her mother, who grew up in the 1980s and her grandmother, who grew up in the 1960s. Join us for this journey back in time!
