The hero of our
My life in Russia series, photographer Todd Prince from Brooklyn, is making a growing series of ~100 street portraits of people around the former USSR he randomly encountered over the past 10 months who were wearing NYC-themed clothing. Boris (pictured) is a barbershop owner in Rostov. His girlfriend was in NYC for work when I met him.

So far, the photos have been taken in Russia (10 cities), Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and two breakaway republics. This couple said they were Moscow university students.

Anastasia, dressed in a New York shirt, was headed out for the night with friends in St. Petersburg.

Jamshid and his friend are from Uzbekistan. Jamshid wants to be a cop, his friend - a photographer.

Zhenya was walking in the Moscow metro in his Bronx hat and leopard-patterned coat. He said he worked for H&M and grew up in the south of Russia.

"He was born a few days before my dad," - says Todd. "I had never seen a NY camouflage hat before I saw him. He was a career officer in Soviet military."

Kristina, Russian by nationality, grew up in Finland. She was walking around St. Petersburg, where she now lives, in her Brooklyn shirt.

Black beanies are in fashion, regardless of what is written on it. These three girls were walking down the pedestrian street in Vladivostok. Nastya with the NYC hat takes hip-hop dance classes. They all said they wanted to move to St. Petersburg.

Perhaps Georgia's biggest Yankee fan. He was directing traffic/parking near an old church outside Tbilisi.

Alexei, a 3rd generation cook, was wearing his Brooklyn, New York hat as he walked in the center of St. Petersburg.

These high school students were standing outside St. Petersburg's most expensive mall. Ironically, his shirt reads "Most people with taste are young and poor." Her shirt reads "New York 91"

She was headed in the direction of the Victory Day firework display sporting a replica of the Soviet military hat and a Brooklyn New York sweater.

Zhanna, a pensioner who helps look after her 4 grandchildren, was working a holiday food kiosk in western Ukraine wearing a NYC hat. She decided to work over the Xmas holidays to buy gifts for the grandchildren. As it was cold, she looked through her son's closet and took his winter hat.

He was wearing a Brooklyn Nets outfit (sweater and pants) as he walked along the Caspian Sea in Dagestan. He was tall enough to play basketbal (2 meters), but said he played volleyball. You can find more photos in
