Russia’s space industry awaits reform

The head of the recently formed United Rocket and Space Corporation (ORKK) told RBTH about the industry’s priorities. In particular, the conversation touched upon the response to potential new sanctions.

Igor Komarov is CEO of United Rocket and Space Corporation (ORKK)

Prior to joining ORKK, he headed AvtoVAZ for 4 years, and before that was Deputy General Director for Economics and Finance at Norilsk Nickel. In the 1990s, he held managerial positions at various credit and financial institutions. He is a trained economist.

ORKK was founded in late 2013 by presidential decree, marking the start of major reforms in the Russian space industry. The corporation is tasked with uniting all enterprises in the industry. The existing Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) will retain its research institutes and organizations pertaining to terrestrial infrastructure.
