The competition is aimed at stimulating interest in the Russian language among young foreigners and Russian expats.
The format is rather simple: children aged 10-16 read aloud excerpts from their favourite books in Russian. It can be an extract from Anton Chekhov or from Mark Twain - but in Russian translation.
About 10,000 children from 80 countries took part in the competition.
The finalists came to Artek for 2 weeks at the end of May. Here they practiced their acting skills, met with Russian actors and writers, and took part in the camp program, which is rather diverse.
